Huicheng Zhong

Partner, Design Director

Huicheng is the founding partner of Atelier Scale, as well as a founding partner of Lab D+H. Huicheng's design has been focusing on the relationship between the macro and the micro in landscape. He believes no matter how small the project is, the design should respond to its regional context and social issues; and no matter how large the project is, the design should return to its proportion, form, material and furniture, etc. Huicheng believes an approaching perfection of a design relies on the full dialog and debate between the macro and micro, and innovative expression. The dialectical relationship between macro and micro could be developed into more relationships - nature and city, sub-urbanization and urbanization, public and private, etc.

Huicheng insists originality and social responsibility in his design, and encourages independent thinking while working with his team. Huicheng is an idea sharer and listener, he gives lectures in many academic institutions, including Harvard University's GSD, Cornell University, Hong Kong Chinese University, Beijing Forestry University and South China University of Agriculture. He is also the initiator of Youth Landscape Architecture. Prior to found Lab D+H, he worked at SWA Los Angeles where he led and managed numerous projects in different scales. Huicheng received his Master of Landscape Architecture with honors from the Cornell University, Ithaca and a M.E in Urban Planning from Beijing Forest University.
